NABCREW Zero AirBlue 1240

The NABCREW Zero AirBlue 1240: Advancing Zero-Emission Transport for Aquaculture and More

The NABCREW Zero AirBlue 1240 is a zero-emission, electric personnel transport vessel developed for the aquaculture industry. Designed to accommodate up to eight passengers, the boat is the result of close collaboration between R2 Marine, Moen Marin, and Pascal Technologies. It features Pascal's unique AirHull technology, which reduces water resistance by creating an air cavity beneath the hull as the vessel gains speed.

One of the main challenges in the design was integrating the AirHull’s geometry into the vessel’s structure while ensuring it met performance and safety requirements. The effectiveness of the AirHull is closely tied to the vessel’s weight, requiring careful optimization of materials and construction methods to keep the boat as lightweight as possible without compromising its strength or durability.

To address the weight constraints, R2 Marine adopted practical design choices from the outset. These included replacing traditional welding in specific areas with gluing techniques, which minimized excess material. We also reduced the thickness of certain metal structures and replaced non-structural equipment elements with high-performance plastics. These measures ensured the AirHull could function as intended while maintaining durability and safety.

This project exemplified the importance of teamwork and collaboration. R2 Marine, Moen Marin, and Pascal Technologies worked closely throughout the design and implementation process, combining expertise to deliver a vessel that meets the demanding requirements of aquaculture operations while advancing sustainable maritime transport.

"Purpose-built for efficiency, the NABCREW Zero AirBlue 1240 offers reliable and environmentally friendly personnel transport, delivering zero-emission performance throughout the day."
